Thread: Headers and downpipe glowing??

So I started up my 98 200sx tonight and let it run for a bit...only to pop the hood and see the headers and downpipe glowing red...is this a normal thing? Ive never really looked at them at night so I'm not really sure. If it's not normal what could be the cause?? They are after market Megan Racing headers btw.

Does the car run okay otherwise? Almost sounds like the cat is partially blocked and the exhaust heat building up behind it.Or actually in front,I guess.Never seen them glow red without something odd happening.

what do your plugs look like?

So you think my cat is bad?? If i swapped that out it may fix it?



My plugs are brand new, just put new ones in

Definitely sounds like your cat is clogged.

x3 on the cat or something bein plugged somewhere in the exhaust.

it can also be that the ignition timing is really far off. i've seen it happen more than once

plugs might be new but what do they look like after the header was glowing...quit being lazy and pull them. Your headers glowing is not a good thing. Your egt's are way way high for some reason.
