Thread: Transmission locking up in gear..

Well I'm not 100% sure on what exactly is the cause but I know that it is transmission internal related... The clutch is pretty much new (~5k on it?) and the car will go with that but the problem I seem to have is that it gets stuck in the gears such as 1st, 5th and reverse... To get it out of the gear I have to rev it up and let the clutch slightly grab then pull it out when i let off.. When the car is in reverse and the clutch is all the way in it won't move at all and it gets stuck in it... If I give it power it will kinda clunk in reverse... Thoughts?

1. Check the cable
2. Does it go in/out of gear when the car is off?
3. Who did the clutch job?
4. Was the transmission open or just dropped and replaced?

Yep if the transmission shifts fine with the car of but not with it on, id say you may have a clutch issues. If it doesnt matter then its definitely an internal problem with probably the shift fork being 1st and reverse are related. You probably have something binding or not releasing properly.

1: cable is good
2: It gets stuck in gear, on or off
3: I did the last clutch job
4: I opened the transmission and replaced the gear stack with another one.


Yeah... It has to be internal :\ clutch is clearly working from all of the tests I've done

Kinda the same thing happened to mine, got stuck in 5th one day and somehow managed to wiggle it free. Then drove it back home, all 5 gears worked great pretty much the whole way then like 3 blocks from home it got stuck in 3rd and 4th basically it wouldn't go into 1st or 2nd no matter how much I tried and if I put it in 5th it would get stuck again and not come out of 5th unless I played with it for a while. Idk what exactly happened but I drove it around my block a few times taking off in 3rd and at random times the tranny would free up and all gears worked fine, then when all seemed well, it got stuck between 3-4 again.. No idea what caused it, I swapped the tranny with another one but still have that one sitting around, Ill probably take it apart soon see if there's anything noticable in there that cause it... Oh yea and when it got stuck it had the issue all the time on or off.

Going to have to drop the tranny again and crack it open.

I'm kind of interested to hear what's the cause of all these trans problems......

Now it works perfectly fine.... I know it was low on oil and i was bashing gears before it happened.... So weird...!
