That would be best, but caliper should be able to make sure you are in ball park and be more useful for other measurements.

All the JWT S3 lobes should be 1.550" iirc. (for lobe major height)

Lobes aren't as important as base circle if the issue is valves not closing. Base circle should be same as stock... IE not bigger holding valves open.

Aim for consistency and see what happens. I am intrigued, that is for sure.

Yeah im gonna go out on a limb and say there is an issue with the cam. I know it was working fine in another motor but if something happened during shipping you just never know. In this case reshimming it might prove to be futile because if the cam is bent on that end its going to tear up your head and cam caps and then youll be screwed.

I doubt its an issue with the base circles being all their cams are cut on the same oem base circles.

Best thing to do is put it on a couple equal height blocks on the actual journals of the cam and measure heights and rotate the cam and see if you see any gap at the end of the cam. It should be very apparent.

We did not ship them, I stored them in a nicely padded box where they were never dropped. I handed them off to Hank when he came to visit my Dad and I when he picked them up. I offered for some more protective materials to take along with him and he declined.

Again who knows man. Maybe during removal something happened that caused the cam to tweek some. Most people dont realize how important it is to loosen the cam cap bolts a turn or so at a time and to do it evenly down the line. The cam can bend very easily if you dont do it properly.

Anyways there is only one way to find out and thats to put it on stands and rotate it and look for variations at the end of the cam.

I would love to know if I managed to bend it.

I dunno. Would like pictures or see what JWT would say. Out of the dozens of cam swaps, I know the FSM procedure by heart almost now.

This is true my friend (a dealer tech) was helping me and watched me turn the cams 1/4 turn at a time evenely and was like WTF why are you taking that long. Also, I helped another friend do a head on a ZX2 and we tightened them down in order put not evenly we went to put the VC on the next morning and guess what the exhaust cam was snapped in half. Thats when I learned my lesson with any internal engine part to take your time and go SLOW and EVEN
