Umm, I was under the impression, per the FSM (EM-46/47), that the HLA's, aka. lifters, are designed
not to compress when the motor is off. If you look in the EM section that covers bleeding them, it states if they move more than a mm., they should be bled until they are solid.
I did not do a leak down or a compression test before the cam install. It is possible it was low compression but not low enough to give it the Subbie sound. The plan is to back out the changes (cams) one by one and see what's the culprit.
