Yeah, ive left a wratchet on the crank quite a few times. When it comes to mechanical things though I always double check my work. I dont forget to tighten anything down when it comes to the internals of a motor. Just too risky to not double check your work.

But yeah, havent had a wratchet damage anything when left on the crank. Most of the time its set in a tighten position so its just a loud wratcheting sound and then falls off.

I left a rag in the throttle body during a swap once and put the intake back on and took a bit to figure out why it wouldnt start....Doh!

Forgot the spacer between the motor and trans a couple times...that sucks. Both times, the axles were back in and the wheels on.

About 7 years ago I left the shop to go to dinner and my friend was going to put my s4's in. I got the car to run barely right after that and couldn't figure out why it wouldn't rev for about a day. He put the cams in 180' off. Smh

Haha. One time I was messing witht he coolant and actually headed to autozone, when I began to see smoke/mist coming from my car at a traffic light. The temp needle was also climbing, I was freaked. I made it to autozone and realized I left the radiator cap off and it was sitting there on the valve cover. !!!

These stories are making me nervous.

I'm about ready to go back out to the garage and turn her over for a compresssion test after bleeding the lifters. I will be triple checkin' everything now.......

damn you guys make me feel better about myself....lol. Im overly paranoid, so i probably go over every motor related job 4-5 times before im satisfied. I do this shit for a living, so i guess it just comes with experiance. #1 bit of advice, i know half the reason for the rush, these cars are dailys for most people.....but keep in mind, saving 5 minutes of double checking evey bolt you turned, and every tool you used after the job saves you HOURS of repairing damage caused by forgetfulness. cutting corners never gets you anywhere, but immidiate satisfaction. usually bites you in the ass, like this motor i just had to pull out of this retarded Ford Focus.....fresh ass motor, and rear mani seal leaks....guess who was supposed to put one in with the replacement motor? yup. 4 hours of my life wasted, due to a 5 dollar, 5 minute installed part. DUR.

i was in a pinch waiting for my airfilter but i had to drive my car, so i thought hey i'll use my wifes nylons.. so i stretched one over my velocity stack and then tied it around the pipe thinkin that'll be fine.. i made it 1/4 mile before the engine sucked that fucker in, good thing i let off the throttle when i did an the throttle body caught it lol

Nylons!!!! on for an air fillter?!!!? wow. LOL. I never tried that. I'd rather just leave it w/o a filter and hope for the best if it was a small trip. I drove 200 miles home without an air filter when I bougt a 93 SE-R last year. I guess the guy didnt want to give me the cone filter.

Oh and here's another one.. one time, during a cam swap, I had to remove the timing chain tensioner............. and dropped one of those 10mm nuts inside the oil filter hole
