timing chain trouble
proud new owner of my 2nd b13, 1st seR. had it for about to week now... yesterday it started running funny, would turn off if i slowed down to fast, and started to have this nasty rattle on acceleration only. so opened the valve cover and i found the timing chain is off one of the guides and is rubbing against the head.......the owner before replaced the main bearing so im guessing he put the chain back on wrong http://www.sr20-forum.com/images/smilies/confused.gif

As long as nothing is broken its a very simple fix for anyone who knows enough to know how to use a torque wrench.

as long as everything is healthy its just a matter of first zip tieing the chainto the cam gears.. loosing one cam bolt and removing one gear. after that you just remove the tensioner from the back of the head which should be two 10mm nuts with 2 washers.

Finagle the chain onto the guides with a long thin screw driver and re assemble

if u do a.little more searching there may even be some nice pictures for cam installs which would involbe the same process.

That'd be nice if that's all he needs to do. If it's installed in a worse way he'll have to take the entire front cover off which usually means removing the engine.

Yes, it could have some problems down at the crank, in which case, ugh, there's not enough room to do it in there. Thats why under my avatar it says "DE cams are pain in the arse" or something
