Thread: Do you think this is the motor mounts?

I know. I bought the car for less than $1k last spring. I expected to have SOME problems with it but not this many. I do really drive the shit out of it though. It has been reliable other than the crank pulley seperating, sunroof leaking, 02 check engine code that won't go away no matter what (spent like a month trying to figure that one out) and now this.

I can't go check the mounts out because it's dark out in my parking lot. One of the main problems is I live in a townhouse complex and I have no garage. All of the bolt-ons I put on I did in a freaking parking lot.

We can't help until you start eliminating things. But check everything when you do, not just the mounts. I'm willing to put money down that it isn't the motor mounts. If it was, you'd be able to replicate it to some degree at a stand still.

Clutch is quite new, about 3k on it, I have the Exedy stage 1 clutch, installed in June. I do drive it pretty "enthusiastically" but I never abuse it, I hardly ever do hard shifts. Its pretty much a daily driver.

Really? There must be some degree of stress put on the frame and everything else when the car is moving that's not there when the car is stopped.. I have no idea.

Oh BTW, it seems to do it more when the car has been driven for a longer period of time, aka warmer.

Did you do the install? If so, what was the condition of the input shaft, how were the axle ends and axle joints? What m/t fluid did you put in after? How were your shifter and stabilizer bushings? Was there any play in the input shaft, throw out bearing, driver's axle retaining ring, wheel hubs? How was the flywheel surface?

I live in a townhome as well. It sucks. Get a nice and bright flashlight. (Welcome to Surefire) Get a piece of cardboard for your back. Lay down on that bish and shine up the trans mount. Very easy to do. Even with the car lowered an inch you can still peak it. The passenger side is right on top but that does more NVH to the cabin than movement. That trans. mount does take a beating. I cracked a case on my stock car in 2006 from wheel hop from a bum mount.

I did not do the clutch install myself, my local mechanic did it. Like I wrote earlier, I've done clutch installs in the past (when I was like 20 and lived with my parents who had a big garage) its tough to do that kind of work in a parking lot where I live now. The flywheel was resurfaced. Unfortunately I don't have answers to any of the other questions

Well like Kyle said, get under there and poke around. Check it all. Being in a parking lot at a complex doesn't stop you from jacking up the car a bit and checking it all, hell I've done a clutch replacement in a park-n-ride lot before. Just make sure you check it all. Anything that moves under there, check it and check where it goes near for any marks.

It's the mounts. I suspect if you drove with the hood off you'd "see" something going on. Good luck!
