I thought that's what happened. Seen it before and it wasn't pretty when they started the car like that lol.

Yep, had the same thing happen with my buddies s13 motor. Had no oil pressure and I asked him if he undented the pan before putting it back up. I look underneith and its still smashed up like crazy. I was like well duh thats why. He pulled it and sure enough it was soo sealed on the pan that it left a perfect round mark on the bottom of the pan where it was tightly sealed against it.

Glad you got it figured out.

yep, u were spot on bro

i guess this engine lost about 20% of its life due to this unnecessary bearing, journal and ring wear

thanks again guys.

Not likely, not on a short startup. I ran my original engine build with zero oil pressure 3 starts for about 40-80 seconds a piece and it didnt damage the bearings at all, It did affect ring seal a bit as it tore the chromium off the cp rings and siezed one end in the ring groove but motor still had good compression just a bit of blowby under boost. No big deal.

If there was no combustion going on, there was not enough pressure on the bearings to do any damage, also more vacuum is better for an engine, do a lot of engine braking from high RPM to seat the rings faster. Don't baby an engine, but don't take it to redline. Also change filter and oil after like 10 min of running engine, also hope you used non-detergent oils (no synthetic or high mileage) if not the rings will take longer to seat since the metal has absorbed all the components that reduce friction.... many ppl make this mistake. Too late now if you already put Mobil1 or Castrol in there. (F peniZoil)

Should read ND-(insert 10/30/40 weight)... Just sayin' Cheap non synthetic is not the same as Non-detergent, just sayin'

Was there any damage? Well there are some indicators pointing to it.

The OP stated:

"it started up fine and ran made lots of scraping sounds and still zero oil pressure. it ran for about 30 seconds"

"i dumped all the oil with the speckled shavings and got fresh oil."

yeah if there were alot of shavings it probably chewed up the bearings a bit. Not good.

On rebuilt motors if you use plenty of assembly lube you could get away with it with minimal damage but a jdm motor that sat for a while and probably had pretty dry bearings to begin with, yeah probably not good at all

hope its ok then. i figured a freshly honed cylinder and new rings would make oil get speckled upon initial start up

and to be honest most of the sounds came from the cams and turbo journal (which i later poured oil down the turbo feed)

i didnt see any obvious acl bearing material though.

lol. if it goes boom i will update the thread
