Valve cover question
When you send a valve cover to be powdercoated, what happens to the little plastic thingy inside the cover? The one siliconed into it.Do you need to remove it? Will it melt when they bake the cover?Hadn't really thought about it until now.

its the gasket. you can take it out and buy another one to replace it for like 30 bucks max on ebay.

Not the gasket. It's a little hard plastic deal siliconed into the cover.I think it's an oil dripper "funnel",for lack of a better word, from the top section of the cover to the cam area.Maybe a picture would help, but that's not gonna happen.

It will fall out most of the time and is not needed. Dont worry about putting it back on. Just leave it off. Its not important.

much safer to get it painted than powdercoated. unless you/your powercoater is really careful, your can wreak your motor. what happens is the powdercoat residue ends up in the air/oil baffles on the underside to the cover, and can ruin the bearings etc.

just saying ,be careful man.

Thats why you have to wash it out REALLY well before putting it back on the motor. I sanded mine down to get the chrome finish and had grits everwhere, I ran water down and inside and out probably 25 times, hot water, cold water, over and over until I was satisfied I had gotten any lingering grit.

No thats why you mask off the valve cover properly and you wont have to worry about it. Bottom, oil opening, vent opening, pcv, spark plug tube openings and done.
