boosted and cammed DDs?
i was thinking about running cams and boost on my car but it is my only car and my daily. curious to see who here is boosted, cammed, and daily drive your car.

mods planning was:

GTi-R T28 and Mani (sitting in the garage)
STi Side Fed Yellows (sitting in the garage)
n62 MAF (sitting in the garage)
JWT S4 Cams (debating to get cams or not)
JDM SR20DE (9.5 CR iirc)
JWT ECU (sitting in the garage soon to be programmed for all/most of the above)

and then thinking about fine tuning it later on with an AFC

what is your MPG like?

what is your set-up?

how long have you been running this set-up as a daily driver?

thanks,
Mark

If it's a DE, a boosted and cammed setup is better than just a cammed setup for DD unless youre running an awefully big turbo. With the turbo youll gain some low end grunt that you usually lose when you slap some cams into the DE.

My cousin has a VE-T that he drives daily no issues at all. An essentially stock VE with a t28

I am running a DET with 91 intake cam, has been super reliable with my old SE-L and is still kicking strong in the B15. MPG is 16-20mpg city / 30mpg highway.

Then on a P11 I had a VE+T (T28) with SR20VE cams and then VET cams. VET cams where more knock resistant, gas mileage was 16-20mpg city and 28-33mpg highway.

15k miles - stock DET, T3/04E, 50lb msd, JWT ecu and 91 cam and it got me 25mpg.

25k miles - Stock DE, T3/T04E, 50lb msd, Emanage with 91 cam got me 28mpg

50k miles - Stock DET, T28, 50lb msd, S4 cams and AEM EMS got me 28mpg city/32mpg highway

20k miles - Stock DE, T28, 91 intake cam, 50lb MSD and AEM EMS got me 28mpg city/34mpg highway

I never had a failure on any of these setups till the very last one and I spun a bearing (my fault though, not the reliability of the setup)

I will soon have bigger T3/T04E on 1000cc injectors with S4 cams on a DET with AEM EMS to give mileage on next spring. I am guessing I can still get 30+ out of it highway.

That's some awesome numbers @coach, did you tune it yourself or have someone tune it for you?

I have always down all my tuning (didn't really have funds or access to a tuner). I did a lot of highway cruise logging and would adjust my fuel maps/timing maps accordingly. Typically I see a lot of people run way too little timing at idle and way too much fuel at idle and when just on the throttle which burns a lot of gas. I clean up those areas on my maps as well.

pretty much as reliable as N/A. what makes a turbo car a little less reliable is just the fact that you have more stuff that can go wrong. I think as long as you build it right, it'll last. I took my car to the 2012 convention which was a 1400 mile round-trip. Got there and back w/no problems at all. I drive it regularly on 600 mile round-trips. I get the same mpg as Vadim, but closer to 20mpg city. DD it should be no problem, but since it's modified you'll probably be doing more mods or maintaining it so it wouldn't be a bad idea to have a backup car. Plus, if for nothing else it's nice to have a proper winter car. I've been much more happy w/the b14 since I got the Maxima.

That's exactly why I'm tuning, no tuner and would rather spend the extra funds on other mods. I'm not shy on timing or on making it leaner. Just haven't found the perfect combo I guess? What cruising AFR's do you generally stick to? Right now I turned it down to 14.3-15.3 from 16's and doesn't seem like I lost/gained any gas mileage. Would love to break away from 20's city.

I do live 1,300 feet above sea level too, thus we do have plenty of hills and mountains. My daily commute does have plenty of straights, but I'm going 25mph 80% of the trip (which is 4miles). This is why I do believe my city MPG is so low, but my wife's P11 is able to get 24mpg in these conditions (two mods: flow stack and sidegapped spark plugs).

Yeah, your mileage is effected by driving conditions. I live in a fairly flat area and most of my commute was interstate, again flat. Not sure anything you do on the EMS is going to pick that up for you. I am able to tweak things easier in the EMS with MAP than a nistune with maf I think. I wouldn't know where to start on a realtime or JK Tuning ecu.
