Piston ring end gap HELP!!!
Hey guys im from south africa and have been looking and arsking every body and nobody can give me an answer, im hoping sombody can help me out i have a blacktop sr20det motor that had a bearing knock and rebuilt the motor over block has been honed every thing on the motor still stock pistons etc, every thing was going good but now i have a huge problem concerning piston ring eng gap, the nissan s14 mannual says the top piston ring end gap must be 0,30mm to 0,40mm now i got a set of GRANT de piston rings and i put the piston rings in the block and pushed it down with a piston to the middle of the block and measured the piston ring end gaP with a feeler gauge and it was 0,45mm iv been doing some reading and they say between 0,017"(0,43mm) and 0,019"(0,48mm) is safe now how true is this? This specs is all for sr20det. What must the top end gap be? any help would be greatly appreciated

thanks for the reply @ cortrim1 the second ring gap is 0,035mm and the specs say it must be 0,55mm so i must file it down a bit, now im just woried that i might get compression in my sub because of the gap being to big, will the gap be fine with it wearing in etc at 0,45mm

top ring will be fine. make sure to round the edges on all of the rings. I doubt you will notice any difference with that small of a variation.

This is what I did on my DE+T

3.386'' bore x 0.0055 = 0.018 top ring on turbo
Second compression ring can be .004 to .008 over that.

Hi guys a sad sad update! I put the motor together and lasted one month as now my dip stick is popping out throwing oil every where and smoke is coming out of my breather and the car smokes bad so rings are gone due to piston ring end gap being to big,

I would like to know has any body taken 20thow oversize ring and filed them down to fit standard bore because of the top compression ring end gap being to big? will it solve my problem? do i have to hone the block if i put the oversize top compression ring in.
any help would be appreciated as i am soooo fed up a 6m0nth project gone bad bad
