Thread: Tranny, hard to find!

What will be a "normal" price for a used transmission? It seems they are $400+, depends of location and mileage. I found one with 189K for $350 and another one with 115k for $450. Also, these days they are really rare and hard to find.

They are getting more and more rare. Damn turbo guys need to just go 6 speed and stop breaking all the gearboxes.

Once swapped you can find spec v or maxima boxes all day long for 250-300 bucks with low low mileage.

Another viable option is the p11 trans as you can swap in QG18 gearstacks into them and those transmissions can be found for next to nothing as well and they are all over the place.

It's not just the turbo guys breaking transmissions, I've got three with cracked cases sitting in my garage now.

I'm going 6 speed as soon as I've got some extra cash. HSLD and a 6th gear for the interstate. With gas at 4.00 a gallon, I can justify the cost and pretend I'm doing it for the better gas mileage.

havent broken one yet.....other than the one that came in my car when it was stock, and had already been broken open for whatever reason.

I've been saying for years that we all need to conserve our cars/parts. The vast majority of folks involved in our little hobby, at least up until the last few years, seem to think there's an endless supply of chassis, parts, motors, trannies, etc. And that just isn't the case.
