Get the VRS piping kit. It is MUCH MUCH cheaper. You just need someone to weld it together for you. Then you'll have plenty of money left over to find a used STi muffler and resonator.

I tried looking for a used STi muffler one day, just because, and there was next to nothing. It's nuts.

Actually for NA I would suggest the same as what I have for my Turbo setup. I got annoyed with my exhaust sagging with the huge magnaflow resonator, though it did sound very good.

2.5" cat-back, 4" diameter resonator as long as you can get from magnaflow, and STI muffler. STI muffler can be as cheap as $50 to $100.

Check out Overkill for the exhaust, I got the piping (not ss) and resonator for $220 shipped: 95-98 200SX

also, what should I expect to pay for each of these items??? I am having trouble finding a used STi muffler online..

EDIT:
holy crap! $420 for cat-back.. I thought this would include a muffler, so get an STi muffler in addition and remove the muffler that comes with the VRS setup?

Yeah, the SS kit is expensive. But, living in the midwest, I go through exhausts like crazy so I stepped up to the big boy version that will last. You WILL need aftermarket exhaust hangers with this setup. As suggested by others, you can get the Megan catback or OEM catback systems and just cut the muffler off and put the STI muffler on. You might even be able to talk to VRS and say you need a cat-to-axle system with resonator. To fit the STI muffler you're going to need custom piping from the muffler to the part over the axle. I got my STI muffler from a guy I found on craigslist who was parting out an STI locally, I picked it up for $50. I would suggest looking at local boards in your area, or checking with local shops, and on craigslist for people who are upgrading/parting out. Unfortunately, the local junkyards wouldn't sell me a muffler, I don't know if that is common practice.

If you are going to get a catback exhaust from one of these places and it is going to include the muffler, there really is no harm in throwing it up as is and seeing what you think. Btw, I've heard quite a bit of nice things about Vibrant mufflers, both in magazines and this forum, so that might be an option.

What's the difference between a resonator and a glasspack muffler and can a glasspack muffler be used as a resonator?

From what I searched on google, the answer is yes but I am asking if anyone here has tried it and how did it turn out?

Basically I have a cat and muffler on my car but I need to filter out the higher pitched exhaust notes and tinny sound. I'm not necessarily trying to quiet my car down but if it does happen that would be a plus. I'm basically trying to get rid of that honda ricer exhaust sound. I'm referencing the sounds heard at 15-18,24-30 and 49 seconds into the video.

BTW I guess the sound clip is down? Could you post a new link please?

I think Glasspacks are at fault here. When I took out the cheap eBay resonator (which is like a glasspack) and installed a Magnaflow the sound was great.

Crap:

Good:

I'm about out of space on my Photobucket thus I cannot store too many videos. Here is what I can offer, Turbo -> Test Pipe -> 18" Magnaflow 4" diameter -> 2.5" OD Piping -> STI Muffler.

I had a Flowmaster 40 on my Saturn, it sounded pretty similar with the raspiness. And it was pretty loud too.
I recommend as big of a resonator before the axle as you can fit... that 6" diam 30" long one is just HUGE lol.

That high-pitched buzzing sound is your heatshield vibrating around.

Can't be. I thought it was the heatshield and removed all of them and it still made the same sound.

I believe it's because of a lack of resonator but I just need to know if I can put a glasspack on there or I need a resonator.

QFT

That's what the flowmaster 40 sounds like on certain 4 bangers. Sounded similar on my Saturn with stock exhaust.
