FWIW, I just put on a cheapie eBay 4-2-1 SSAC style header with 2.0" collector. I'm mating it to a 2.0" high flow spun aluminum cat as described in my previous post. The cat is going to be mounted butting up against the factory resonator, so about 6" back of the stock cat flange. This should help improve low end power just a bit as the length of the collector would appear to be a bit longer to the motor.

I should have everything welded up by the end of the week and will hopefully be able to get some vids up then.

Vadim I think I'm going to do something like Ben Fenner did and cram as many 4" resonators as humanly possible between points A and B of this pic:

Yup that's a good way to do it. Though having a stockish muffler will allow you to get away with one reso .

I did just pick up an STi muffler from Grinch77 (Craig) a couple of days ago..

$87 - MagnaFlow (12259) 18" long case, 3" ID, single offset muffler

Cheers! =]

So basically Ben stuffed 4 feet of resonators/mufflers in that straight away.. So I should be able to get two longer 4" resonators in there, the magnaflow 28" in and 20" in with 2.5" openings on both..

I guess this would be:
2.5" in/out 22" length, 28" overall - Magnaflow PN 10436
2.5" in/out 14" length, 20" overall - Magnaflow PN 10414

if I cut off 2" of the obnoxious 3" lip on either side of the magnaflow resonators and do like Ben did, I might even be able to fit two 28" (22" overall) resonators under there... as they'd be more like 24" long each, overall, for a total of 48"

EDIT:

Oh I have even a better idea. Something tells me that the Dynomax and the Magnaflow might cut out different frequencies of sounds, so perhaps putting one of each would be better - AND Dynomax has something in between the 22" and 28" lengths offered by Magnaflow so I will feel better about fitting two longer 4" resonators on that straight away.

Here's my final decision and I'm going with it..

2.5" in/out 22" length, 28" overall - Magnaflow PN 10436 (MagnaFlow Performance Exhaust)
2.5" in/out 18" length, 23.5" overall - Dynomax PN 24236 (Dynomax Performance Exhaust | Mufflers | Race Bullet Mufflers)

just a heads up guys. i have an 04 wrx i put an invidia up pipe and 3 inch bell mouth down pipe on a few weeks ago.........ie my car now has no cats in the entire exhaust system. i have an sti muffler on it and i can say..............................................no stupid loud ass exhaust for me. just a slight bit of burble from inside and a good volume outside. this muffler works.

awesome.. I don't even want a slight burble though.. that's why I'm also doing the dual resonators..

anyone ever tried a flowmaster 50 series muffler? its their 3 chamber design and is supposed to be fairly quiet.
