All of those kind of shifters come with that rubber bit, i have yet to this day figured out what the hell it is used for lol

use in conjunction with the little spring on the shifter arm thingy

or like someone already said use as an o ring of sorts to help prevent rattling or something. could always ask greg.

if its a regular rubber-band it could be used to hold the stock leather boot from sliding down the shifter. Just coil it up until its tight on the shifter and slide the stock leather boot over it and it will hold the boot up
