Thread: emissions b12 det AZ

Anyone have any input on passing emissions on a det b12 in arizona? I've only tested my car which obdII so im not even sure how they test that car since its carb and a smaller motor than the de. I sort of plan on doing a little det and ive been thinking of doing it to a b12.

Post pics,of the b12.......here in illinois obd1 cars from 1995 and older dont need emmisions testing somehow if passed in the previuos year or two.....

Sorry it doesnt answer your question,but I imagine a det in the b12 would be better emmisions wise than the original carbed motor,(what mottor is in it)?

I actually want to go grab one from the junk yards out here one is filled with the nicest b12's you'll ever see! Slot of them under 100k miles so their very good looking. Out here on obdI they put it on the rollers and put a tester in the pipe and check the engine bay.

20+ years old, slap classic plates on that bitch and call it a day, no emissions

I dunno how it works down there but I'm in PA and they are like Nazi strict with emissions up here and that's one way I found around emissions. Car has to be 20+ yrs old and you have to get classic plates for it which is a few hoops to jump thru but then you'll never have to have emissions again. In my research I also found some kinda loop hole saying if your car fails and you spend like $150 to get it fixed but it still fails you can get an exemption from it, but there are stipulations like the engine can't have been tampered with...etc. Do some google search on them rules and shit in your state, might find a loop hole like that also....in my personal experience my engine was clearly tampered with do that'd never fly for me but that's when it helps to have a friend who's a licensed mechanic lol

I see i see! I really want to do this and this is holding me back, the thought of not being able to pass. I will read about it here in az i didnt know that can have historical plates on a car like that already.

I don't think it matters the car (don't quote me on that, not something I researched) just as long as it's the proper age. You have to submit pictures of the car and stuff to get the classic plate I THINK, or that could just be for the discounted insurance so they know the cars in decent condition to begin with. My dad did it with his 90 Corvette, but I don't think it would matter the car cuz who's to say what a worthy car for classic plates would be, you know...I just know there are some hoops to jump thru just can't remember exactly what. As long as the state gets their cut their happy lol

Ohh i meant as in the year not car model sorry i was misleading. Wow that would be awsome if its possible. Definitely going to look into this more tomorrow. And its not normal insurance?

Well what I know in the case of my dads Corvette is they got a special insurance on it that's a fraction of the price since it's plated as a classic. Check to make sure there's no limitations on driving the car with it plated as classic tho. Basically do the research before hand and go with the best option that works for you
