yeah, de is a hard one to kill....i drove 2 hours on 3 thrown rockers, car didnt give a damn other than running a little rough, once replaced, ran like a skinned cat. A thrown rocker is a small deal i promise you, TEHINICALLY if your ganster like me, you can get em in without pulling the timing chain with the aid of a screwdriver, and save yourself a hour or 2. Good luck, have faith......it aint a broken ring land or a spun bearing, motors good as far as im concerned.

Pfff, I drove my buddies nx for a year with cracked ring lands on his boosted nx. I literally did about 11k miles on it after the overboost incident happened causing the damage. Just had alot of blowby, just routed the valve cover vent hose out of the engine bay so it wouldnt spray oil all over the place. lol

They are tough motors for sure. Still whomped on the local hondas too, cracked ring lands and all.

i bought my old burgandy car with a gtir with cracked ring lands.....as i didnt care, and got it as a shell at in price, i beat the shit out of it.....one of my honda buddies thought it was pretty fast, just like that. lol. but you CANT be repping the sr smoking dick everywhere you go.....just aint right. lol. and yes, bleed the liftters.....i assumed that was a given, they WILL build pressure on their own if they are good, but you might find that one/some/all are locked up if you bleed them. ive seen that a few times with engines with ANY level of sludge.

lol well it didnt really smoke too bad out the exhaust, only slightly, more so out the valve cover breather than anything. Of course it sounded like a subaru at idle and under 2000 rpm. No problem though. It kept on ticking until it eventually scrapped the walls soo bad that it lost almost all compression and was finally time to be replaced.

This motor is super clean zero sludge. The cams looked like mirrors.
Since it is all back together,I am gonna take a chgance and fill her up with oil and try to strt it.
If theres any noise or anything out of the ordinary,I will shut it off and maybe pull the cams and lifters like ashton suggested.
It just sucks because I dont want to be working on this NX.I want it sold so I can work on my other car(s)
Someone could get a hell of a deal at this point....just out of my sheer frustration.

update...Its alive!!

It started right up and ran rough for a bit.
I held it around 3000 rpm for about 30 seconds and she smoothed right out and purrs like a kitten.

Thanks for all the help guys.
I have to guess that a stuck lifter was the cause of this, since the car was not overrevved.

Stuck lifter in the SR20 = very rare

Cant tell if sarcastic or not. lol.

Either way its not all that common but is common in motors that have sat a while. Matter fact I had a seized lifter take out my semi built motor long ago. Stupid me started hearing the intermittent ticking driving to the track, but it went away. Got there and tried to run and heard it at the starting line again loudly and wouldnt go away and I tried to make the pass anyways and ended up sending the rocker flying and dropped a valve in the process and destroyed the motor. Not fun.
