popping rockers/shims
What could/would cause rockers to pop off on a DE? ....other than over revving .I took the VC off and the rockers are off on 3 and 4
Not sure what happenned...I drove it around the block after swapping the motor in with no problem. The next time I started it,it was running on 3 cyl.

I am still missing a slotted shim but found the other one and the two flat shims in the head.
I am going out to pull the oilpan next

Failed lifter will cause it. Any ticking noise the prior startup?

Basicly any valvetrain ticking when it was running before it popped the rockers?

haha...ook
YES it was ticking, but the motor sat for years so I figured maybe it was a lifter that would free up.Nd it did.But maybe after I turned the car off it stuck again???
I an about to go pull the pan to see if the other shim is in there. Its draining now

Yep, seen it happen. There are a lot of little crevaces in the head, be sure to check carefully. If they are not there they should be in the pan, hopefully the lower pan, if not you might need to pull the upper if you cant get a magnet tool in there to fish around.

probably fell into the pan......fall through the timing chain area. check all lifters especially if theyve been sitting. other than that, no not really anything besides over reving, or loose rocker retainer bolts.

Yep, best thing to do while your in there is just pull the cams out, remove all lifters, check for wear or buildup in the lifter ports and in the lifter itself. Rinse and clean them thouroughly with cleaner, let them sit in some fresh oil for about 20 minutes or so, fill the lifter ports with fresh oil and reinstall all lifters by sliding them in slowly and gently making sure they go in all the way without any binding.

Put all back together and fire it up and run it at about 2500-3000 rpm holding it there for a couple minutes and make sure there is no noise.

I dropped the lower pan,and nothing.
I did fish a magnet around with no luck in the upper pan.
I am not gonna pull it,too.
I managed to get it all back together and put a spare shim in there.
I am gonna try to start it tomorrow.
If if runs, great.Maybe I will get lucky.
If not,I am gonna drop the motor, and give up on it.At this point I have too much time and energy in it.I was trying to get some use out of this DE that was sitting in my garage, and all it has done is cause me aggravation.
Look for the NX partout soon...LOL

Dont give up on it that easy. Its just a couple hours of time to get it running properly. Lifters stick when they sit for a long period.

Again do what I said and i bet you it will be just fine.
