Thread: Powersteering - pic added

I'm looking at my car at the moment and if I had a pipe made up it would be a pretty straight shot from the powersteering pump to the rack (RHD). Will certainly help tidy up that one strut tower and that area near the intake manifold.

Is there any functional reason why the powersteering pipe runs from the pump up to the strut tower before going back down to the steering rack via the hardline?

Any reason why this would not be a good idea?

I would guess that it has to do with the engine movement, if you put a flexible line in such a short distance it wouldn't really have a lot of room to flex and would likely cause issues.

Again I'm making a logical observation which is basically a guess, so I could very well be wrong.

If I made a flex line I would give it an inch or two extra to ensure it never became an issue when the motor moves. Although with the engine mounts the engine barely moves at all.

It has been done. With no ill effects.

Chatted to a powersteering shop and they say the lengths are for heat mainly. They advise against this mod saying the system wil overheat, the pump will fail and things may even melt.

But the "cooling" loop in the pipe is between the rack and the resevoir. The pipe above is between the pump and the rack.

I'm thinking if I go ahead with this I can source a tranny oil cooler or similar and replace that coolant loop for more cooling.

Again its been done. The strut tower loop is just for that, flex line to hardline to avoid damage with engine movement and make for quick disconnect when servicing it I would imagine.

Yeah thanks guys I'm going ahead with this. Already removed and cut the stock pipe.
