I have swapped mine out. There was a problem in early B13s with inaccurate fuel gauge readings, but I have not heard anything about unites failing. It's located in the fuel tank, and is pretty straightforward to change. If you are going into the fuel tank (through the access hole under the back seat), make sure that you have a new Nissan O-ring (it's maybe 7 inches in diameter) before you open it up. It
will need to be replaced. Also, it's best to do this on a near-empty tank. And, finally, loosen your gas cap before disconnectng the fuel lines to relieve the pressure and reduce the amount of fuel that will spill.
Oh, and put out that cigarette before opening the fuel tank.
