Fuel Sending Units
Has anyone messed around with these?

I was told that they seem to go out commonly, is there a way to test to see if mine is working properly or not?

I have swapped mine out. There was a problem in early B13s with inaccurate fuel gauge readings, but I have not heard anything about unites failing. It's located in the fuel tank, and is pretty straightforward to change. If you are going into the fuel tank (through the access hole under the back seat), make sure that you have a new Nissan O-ring (it's maybe 7 inches in diameter) before you open it up. It will need to be replaced. Also, it's best to do this on a near-empty tank. And, finally, loosen your gas cap before disconnectng the fuel lines to relieve the pressure and reduce the amount of fuel that will spill.

Oh, and put out that cigarette before opening the fuel tank.

Is there a way I can test it? I think I will run my car almost dry then see whats inside and check if its at least clean etc

One way to check it out is to run your car until the fuel warning light comes on and then fill up the tank. Compare how much fuel you add to the spec for tank capacity (13.25 gallons) to estimate how much fuel you had left.

Well with 98 200sx and 99 Sentra's there is a different Vapor Canister, our cars have it in the back by the gas tank.

That thing can take a bit of fuel, along with the fuel lines/fill line. In the past I've been able to fill 14+ gallons in the past haha.

But it all depends on gas pump used, and temperatures.

Like yesterday I fueled up 0.12 gallons for driving 23 miles in the city. Now I let the pump punch out 3 total times. Now I drove 20 miles, and the fuel gauge started falling. That just tells me that the gas pump sucked back quite a bit of gas!
