Not getting a spark?
Hey, i got a 98 200sx SE-R from my buddy who had the engine bay completely gutted, he sold it to me with everything but the tranny, so i took everything and put it back in, however i had to get a B13 tranny because a B14 one was impossible to find. I asked around on this forum and they said i could put the B13 one on since it bolts perfectly however i would need to switch the speed sensor and it didnt have a spot for a crank position sensor so i would have to drill and tap for it or bypass it. The car is now all put together but im running into a few issues. I had everything electrical working fine, but now for some reason the speakers only work on one side, and the light only comes on when opening the passenger side door. But the bigger issue is that it cranks but will not turn over, it seems as though there is no spark being created. It turned turned completely on once right after i put some starter fluid in, but won't anymore. Can someone give me a rough idea as to why this may be happening? Could it be because i don't have the crank position sensor? And is there a way i can get around this? Any help would be really appreciated...this has been my project for a few months now and im so close to finishing it. Thank You

Very likely it's because you don't have the crank angle sensor. Why were you unable to find a B14 trans? I would have looked for anything before I would put a B13 trans in. Just to many issues with it (not only the CAS).

I was looking for 2 months and nothing was available so i just went with the B13...but what issues are there with it? But the only thing that has me concerned is that it did turn over once...if it is the CAS would it still have done that? Are there other reasons it could be doing this? and if it definitely is the CAS how can i get around this?

Crank angle sensor is not necessary. Only reason to put it in is if the code it throws bugs you. It in no way does anything other than diagnostic purposes.

If it ran briefly when you added starting fluid, that's a fuel issue not a spark issue. You can confirm this by removing the plugs, leaving them hooked to the wires, and putting them on the intake manifold. As you crank, they'll spark, and it'll be obvious. Just have a friend watch as you crank.

Check over your fuel system, make sure you hear the pump priming when the ignition is turned on before you start the car. I'm thinking you forgot some grounds, specifically the ones for the ECU that attach to the intake manifold. You may have also inadvertently hooked up the fuel rail reverse. Check that too.

From my understanding is there are 2 "CAS" one is a camshaft angle sensor and the other is the crank angle sensor that reads off the flywheel teeth on the transmission, I believe your referring to the 2nd while the op is talking about the first one which is located inside the distributor.

To the Op, yes that could cause no spark or faulty spark, you can easily get another distributor from the junk yard..

Nah, seems like he's talking about the crank sensor on the tranny.
