Thread: VSS speed sensor code

I have a B14 throwing a code for VSS...but the tach and speedo work.
ododmeter,trip-odo ,and cruise do not work.
How is that possible?
Can the speed sensor partially fail like that?

Sounds like the signal is getting to the cluster but not the ECU. Wire broken somewhere? Also, you have the analog odometer yeah? Thats just a gear driven in the cluster, so if your speedo works then it's the cluster acting up.

There was a weird issue with danfivetens b14 after he swapped a new cluster in it too had a VSS code. Turns out on of the screws on the back was merely loose, after tightening it everything was good.

^^ hmm,I havent pulled the cluster out to check for loose wires or whatever yet.
I am trying to get the cruise working,too.Usually VSS will disable the cruise,but I thought it went off the speedo...not the ODO.

wont hurt to check for loose screws on the back of the cluster, but who knows might be something else.. maybe just a bad cluster..
