Thread: Clutch switch

What is the actual name of the switch on the clutch pedal.. I think I need to order one.

I'm not sure if there is a sensor in the actual pedal as well, but the transmission definately has a switch. *I think* its proper name is the neutral position sensor.

On the B14's there are two on the clutch pedal, one that activates as soon as you push in the clutch and one that activates when the pedal is all the way down.
Not sure on the names, just ask for the clutch pedal switch and they will figure it out.

Are you talking about the switch that has to be depressed when the pedal is all the way to the floor to allow the car to start? I think that is called the clutch inhibitor switch.

Just bypass it and never start it in gear again. Great for working on the car.

That's what I did when I did my 5-speed swap. All you have to do is spice/loop two wires together.

I know it's old, but just for reference purposes.
The first of the 2 switches on the clutch pedal is to deactivate the cruise control when you have it turned on, the second ( pushed to the floor ) is the safety switch to turn your car on.

And yes the one on the trans is the Neutral Position Sensor, basically for emissions. Lets say you are traveling at what ever speed, throw it in neutral. Because you are still moving, the wheels move the trans that moves the clutch to flywheel, and actually rev's your engine. That switch forces the RPM's down to idle speed so you don't waste gas, and don't pollute as much.

Question. When I first jumped the switch, the car would not start. So I push started it. Now it works. Why did I have to push start it for the bypass trick to start to work?
