Thread: Fan switch temps on Modified n/a

Hey guys,

I'm running an external VW fanswitch with my EMS system to trigger my radiator fans. (1xOEM and 1x12" pusher)

Now, the fan switch comes in various temperature options. Which of these would you say is best for highly modified n/a VE for mixture of street/strip use:

Fans turn on / Fans turn off:
180f / 152f
185f/167f
197.6f/188.6f

I used to run the 180/152 option but it's annoying when the fans run so often and long. Bear in mind the (OEM) fans only run on their low speed setting. What is the OEM temp values?

oem is on 212f off 200f i think.. could be wrong on the off but im right for the on.

Wow that's quite high. 212F is 100deg C which is boiling point for water. Why would nissan want the motor to run that hot?

I think I'm gonna go with the middle option I posted.

well water acts differently in the engine then if it were in a pot, i dont think its only nissan that uses the 212f temp for the fans to come on.

you want the engine to be in the 180's.

if i set my car up like that, the fan would always be on, even when driving down the freeway, it would be totally pointless.. if you want to set it up different from stock, set it to like 200 on 190 off or something.

yeah I guess antifreeze will control that. Although it does lower the cooling ability of the mix.

Ok so you're saying the last option would be good. Our climate is much hotter here though - not sure if that makes a difference.

ya that last option should kick the fan on after sitting at a stop light for a minute or two then be right back off once you get moving steady again. or it'll just keep the fan on in stop an go traffic until it reaches desired off point so depending on the day it might go off pretty quick or stay on till you start driving.
