Thread: Bad axle or bad wheel bearing???

I can't figure this out. Two months ago I got new wheel bearings at the front and I change the passenger side axle. The wheel bearings were TIMKEN from Autozone and the axle was remanufactured from Autozone. This is for my B14. My local machine shop replaced the bearings. I installed the axle myself. I have installed axles many times before. Everything was tighten correctly(specified torque).

The problem is, recently started to develop a clicking sound when I turn to the left. You can also hear it when u turn to the right but is less noisy. The clicking sound is louder under load when u turn.

I though the noise was coming from my driver side axle. I bought a brand new one and I installed it today but the clicking noise still there "like it was before".

What it could be? Do I have a bad wheel bearing or a bad passenger side axle?

- Click click click usually means axles. Grinding/whining noise usually means wheel bearing.

Its probably clicking from a ball joint, spring binding, or axle. My guess is ball joint. Maybe even a tie rod

Check all of your bushings for your suspension.. I haven't ever heard of a wheel bearing clicking when you turn but I would start with all of your suspension bushings

does your steering feel normal? it could also be coming from the brakes perhaps... I would make damn sure everything under the car is tight as it can be. Could be a nut backing off everytime you turn maybe on a control arm. Never had it happen, but you never know until you get down there and make sure.

Yep, everything is tight. I even tried applying the brakes when making a turn to see if the noise goes away, but still does it. I been trying to think what else could be wrong, and is like I have a bad axle.

I don't think I can feel it in the steering wheel. Is kind of strange that most of the time when u hear it is when u turn to the left accelerating. I'm thinking of buying another passenger axle again.

I just found out on my civic that the inner tie rod is messed up and clicking pretty bad, maybe its the same thing?

It click constantly or just when u turn? Mine sound like, click, click, click when u turn to the left and the timing of this click sound increase as you speed.

I think when u have a bad tie rod you can hear it as you turn the steering wheel, even if your car is at a stop. But I could be wrong.

Replaced inner tie rods, noise still the same. At least I did not waste my time, they needed to be replaced anyway. Back to square one.

I would say axle problem.
I have had decent luck with axles,but my friend has had crappy luck with remans over the years.
Take it back,sometimes the remans are crap. Alot of times they just repolace a boot ot whatever instead of rebuilding the whole axle.
