Buying a used junk yard SR20
I'm in need of some opinions.

Spend $450 for a motor with 78k, or $700 for a motor with 39k.

It will be swapped back into my 2000SE and continued to be driven daily. Body has 175k on it now.

Thanks in advance.

I'd go for the junkyard engine if they have a warranty. I bought my last one from a guy off craigslist with 96k, and it's still running fine. I'd see about getting a compression test, look under the VC, and check the oil quality at least.

Or both for $1150! I'd go 39,000 just because you can.I bought a 47,000 mile motor for $450 a couple of years ago, just to have a good backup.

Is this a RR motor your talking about being its an 00 se and price wise that seems to be what a jdm RR motor goes for. 450 isnt bad at all. I sold a 132k mile RR that was in great condition minus some hoses needing replaced for $450. Thats what a decent RR motor goes for.

If this is for a jdm highport or lowport motor well i dont know where your getting your jdm motors for but if you pay any more than $500 shipped for a jdm highport or lowport then your way overpaying. I got every single one of the 20+ jdm highports from Soko in Cali for $450 shipped to my door.

Yes he's looking for a roller rocker which is why the price is a bit higher.

Check out tigerJapanese. Com. They'll ship the engine right to your house.I think the rr is 600.30-40k from wt the sales rep explain to me.check it out tho.engine I received was immaculate. Except for a bent coolant lines and broken tps.but its not like you can't get it off your old motor.

As Lou said it is a RR. Thats what the turbo setup was built around so that's what I will buy to replace mine that went bye bye. The lower the miles the better, but is 200 bucks worth 30k less miles. I am going to go to one yard that has 3 motors in it's inventory all under 60k, and around 500 bucks. I am going to check them out and see if one is worth buying.

Id rather buy a motor with 70K that had the oil changed than a motor with 30K that did not have the oil changed. Inspection before you buy will tell you a lot. Pop the valve cover, it will tell you a lot.

I had suggested upgrading rod bearings before putting the junk yard motor in. Anyone disagree?
