Thread: Clutch cable snapped

Here's a way I just figured out to tell if our clutch cables are getting close to snapping (after youve adjusted it many times) it may get harder and harder to shift into 1st gear at complete stops.

This may be a stupid question, but I'm at work now so I can't visualize my car.

At what end do you adjust the cable? Mine grips too high after the (previous owners) clutch change, and it squeeks when you press down the clutch. It's a brand new cable (not OEM). Think I'm gonna try to adjust it and lube it when i get home.

Lube it with oil, grease, or an appropiate lube. I've found PB Blast almost makes the squeaking worse. It adjusts under the hood at the tranny where it connects to the arm. You need to loosen the 10mm nut then turn the "wheel." reference previous pictures to see the "wheel." that's what I call it.

Yup add another one to the pile.....just threw in a new cable this morning, I sprayed wd-40 down the shaft of the cable replaced the boots, and greased the outer ends cable...... lets see how long this one lasts.

3 months homie. Longest lasting aftermarket cables so far. I'm using a cable from "Doorman" part number 16680. Cost me 20 bucks and comes with a one year warranty ...can't go wrong. I would go oem but I don't want to bother the dealer with the whole process....neither can I afford to wait I use my car on a daily basis I need something that readily available at all times. The only problem that this cable has had is that the cable it self eats into the metal casing sometimes.....this causes a little friction to occur........out side of that problem I have only had the cable snap once, one time the bracket failed on the trans side ( the pin popped out), and the other time it failed on the pedal side of the cable ( the pin also popped out ). I'm on my 4th cable in 2 years. I'm using a JGY pressure plate.

^^^greV @ Gspec bro. He takes the dealer straight out of OEM!!! Get one and keep it in the trunk, that way it's always on hand.

are they oem cables?

$70 a pop is killing me though but the oem cable lasted me almost a year though....with no maintenance.
