Thread: Idle sticking high...

Ok so this problem is starting to drive me nuts... the idle speed randomly sticks anywhere from 1100 to 1800 rpm, even after it's up to operating temp (172F) for a while. The part that gets me is that turning the a/c on for a second and back off fixes it 100% of the time, the idle settles right down to a solid 800. I thought it could be the IACV sticking open and hitting the a/c would make it try to move and unstuck it, but even after replacing the whole IACV it still happens so now I guess it must be the ecu sending it that voltage..? With the AAC unplugged, perfect idle all the time aside from the divebombing and hard starts...

So does anyone have any ideas on why this is happening? I have a scangauge so if there is some condition that can check for I could try that but I don't have datalog or anything.

Check the tension on your throttle/ cruise control cable, ive had that problem before,

The tension on the throttle cable is fine... I know it is the AAC holding the idle up because I pulled the plug on it while it was stuck on high and it settled right down to base... plugged it back in, went back up to 1300 or so. I don't get it!

I had similar thing and resetting the ecu stopped it.

I'll try that. Is there anything to it other than leaving the battery unhooked for 20+ minutes?

you turn the thing on the side of the ecu and then turn it back or get a hookup to the port in the fusebox and reset it with the right software.

Uhhhh I don't have a cable or anything for that... Is there a way to get to that thing without actually pulling the whole ecu out? I pulled off the plastic shroud and didnt see the screw on either side so I assume it is on the firewall side where I can't really get to it... or am I missing something? lol

edit: derp I looked again and it's not even held down by anything once the cover is off so I just pulled it out and reset it using the screw. will report back after driving it for a while...

same thing! do I need to give it time to relearn or something? Nothing really felt any different after resetting it...

I give up! I'm just gonna block off the AAC and set the idle with the screw, it seems to drive much better that way. Who wants to buy a <1 month old IACV...lol

Hmmmm could this be my problem? I replaced the o-ring in there not too long ago but I believe the non-replaceable inner seal has started leaking

edit: are all sr20 b14 distributors the same?
