Thread: Quick Antifreeze leak question

So the drain plug on my radiator was faulty and i replaced it with a new one yesterday that works perfectly. Once i replaced it I filled the radiator up all the way and put a little something extra in the reservoir to be safe while the engine was cold. Today I drove to the store and back, perfectly fine when I got back. Little later I went for a drive around the block with my dad (letting him drive) and when we got back and turned the car off I noticed a bit of antifreeze (enough to make a little trail running out from underneath the car) coming from somewhere between the firewall and engine a little bit behind the oil pan. It was a relatively slower leak (like it wasn't gushing out or anything) and after a few minutes it stopped (like i said, enough to have a small trail go about the length of the car, but not a lot)....I couldn't really get up under to see where it was coming from since it started getting dark but was just curious what that could have been from? I figured maybe i put to much antifreeze in there, but my reservoir is almost empty and i figured the excess would have just stayed in there?

Most people have had the hose from the waterneck split at some point. May need to be replaced.

Yeah i filled up the radiator to the top again and I see a slow drip leak going on up behind the oil pan of antifreeze. How do I check this waterneck, like where should i be looking?

Let the engine cool and there's a hose on the passenger side, under the intake manifold. Put your hand on it, fondle it a lil and see if that's it.

Most likely, you'll have to take off the intake manifold anyways, so you could take that off now to get a very good visual of the hoses back there.

What do you make of this, found this little puddle of antifreeze on top of the intake manifold, you dont think it could be a head gasket do you? I'm a little more worried than i was before, but I haven't looked to hard at it yet. Getting it towed (since it was over heating) cause I don't wana damage it any further.......

No one has any ideas? I'm going to take a look this weekend when I have the time....i'm just not sure why coolant would collect there....it doesnt appear to be milky or mixed with oil...i'm gonna run some tests this weekend though. See if any bubbles come from the radiator, make sure the oil looks like oil still to hopefully rule out the a head gasket

Is it possibly spraying off of the lines going to the heater core, I have never had a highport so I dont know my way around the engine. I cave a ve and I had a leak on one of the coolant pipes going through the intake manifold and I put some bars leaks copper formula in my radiator, it stopped the leak completely. You could try something similar, if the leak stops it's a metal connection leaking if it doesnt stop it's a rubber part leaking

Found it, believe it was a hose going to the heater core, replaced it, compression seems to fine, no leaks so far....i think (and hope) its cured. Now i'm gonna drive it a little make sure it doesn't over heat. Thanks again everyone
