Do I need a new alternator?
So this weekend I installed my 4 pulley set. Crank, Power Steering, Water pump, Alternator. Install was easy as pie. Car revs like a freaking motorcycle now (also have the 8.5 fidanza). Today while I was driving I heard a weird whirring noise so I pull over... It sounded like it was coming from the alternator. At first I thought the belt was loose but it did NOT sound like belt squeal.

So I keep looking around and I notice that:

1. The bolt that comes out of the alternator that holds the alternator pulley was broken..
2. The nut that goes on that bolt that sandwiches the pulley to the alternator dissapeared as well.
3. My belt is tight..... Could it have been too tight? Or did I not tighten the nut onto the pulley tight enough?

How do I fix this? Do I need a new alternator? or can that bolt that comes out of the alternator and the nut be replaced?

Any input is appreciated. Thanks.

i would think you only need to replace the bolts

You talking pivot bolt or the pulley bolt? IF it is the pulley bolt, not sure you can replace that one, cheaper to get an alternator fromsomeone. IF it is the pivot bolt, that is pretty common. People don't go back and check that nut for tightness and you should use a little loctite on that bolt/nut also. Replace it and move on if it is the pivot bolt.

No not the Pivot Bolt. It was the Pulley bolt. But It wasnt broken. The nut backed off and I just had to replace it and added thread lock to the new one. We shall see how it holds up now.....
