sr 4 door swap smog test
My buddy wants to buy a 4 door sentra with a DE swap. Owner lives in california, says the car wont pass smog. I figured this, but is there a way to go about this? We're in arizona. I just talked to my buddy and sais he might have a PO box outside of maricopa we might be able to use.But for now, is there anything we can do about it? thanks, oh btw its a fully stock DE ecu ect..

If it has all the smog equipment and was done right and it's tuned up with everything functioning properly including the cat, then there shouldn't be a reason it won't pass. Though, the emissions limits are lower for the 1.6L, so if they are running it as a 1.6L on the machine, then it has to be running properly in order to pass. Also the timing on the GA16 is around 8 degrees versus the 15 for a DE, that alone could cause it to fail.

It wouldnt pass because they will most likely run the car for a ga16? the car is now a 2.0 So with everything running properly with the ser cat and everything, along with lowering the timing, it should pass?

i'm asking if it's obd1 or obd2....if it's 1 just make sure it runs really good...if it's obd2 your gonna have to fix any codes

In cali you cannot swap engines to an engine that is larger than the one it replaces. The engine must also be from the same year or newer.

Good luck getting it registered.

it is my understanding that if that engine was offered in that chassis then you are able to swap over the bigger motor. But in order to legalize it you have to go to the referee to have them certify it.
