Thread: Water Pump Mating Surface Cleaning

Hey fellas I'm getting ready to pull the engine on my white car and change the water pump while it's out. What are you guys using to clean the mating surface?

Brake clean

Stiff plastic scraper and brake cleaner to clean up. Paper towels too. Sometimes if I get nuts I'll use a steel razor blade but you have to be very careful not to mar the aluminum mating surface. Only pull away, and only at an angle.

brake clean and a scotch bright pad works great.
