Yeah i usually take the Valve cover off too. However, the throttle cable idea is brilliance. I hate cutting sr20 stuff though because if i were in need of it and found nothing but cut or broken parts i would go into rage.

I don't mind if my hands get dirty, and I've never considered time spent in the junk yard as a waste.

Every time I take something apart I also learn about re-installing it, or learn something about some unrelated part, while I'm at it.

I get idea's from looking at other cars, and often come across unexpected "finds".

I also don't like to pay someone, to do something, I'm capable of doing myself. (unless it's in the middle of a north Idaho winter, then the credit card is out in a flash. )

I had to do it in the pouring rain, this is the shelter I made before it got really bad. The poor P10 donated the back seat cushion, and the Tercel gave it's hood. Before I was done there was a mini river running under and around the seat bottom.
Don't forget your steering wheel puller.

What tool is this? The Steering wheel puller? It works well for getting the pulley off?

I went to the junkyard today and took the crankshaft pulley off the G20.

Thought I was prepared, I had a 27mm socket, long ass breaker bar and a gear puller, along with my usual tools.

First tried I tried was putting little bolts in the brake rotor vanes, found out this doesn't work on an auto transmission. Next I stuck a wad of carpet padding in the belts, that didn't work either.

Now was the time to put a throttle cable down the spark plug hole, only I discovered I left the spark plug socket 25 miles away at home. More disappointed than pissed off because I really wanted to try this method.

I ended up pulling the valve cover(sludge monster lived in there) and sticking some little bolts through the holes in the cam gears.

This worked great! I was able to sit on the ground facing the front bumper, reach down and pull back on the breaker bar. The bolts in the cam gears didn't shift at all and I had all the leverage I needed to break the pulley bolt loose.

I used a 2 jaw gear puller to remove the pulley. The hole where the pulley bolt came out of was to deep for the gear puller so I just stuck a small headed bolt in there and the pulley came off smooth and easy.

The pulley was only 3.00 bucks and with what I learned the UR pulley should come off quick and easy at home. With the manual tranny in the B13, I'll be able to put it in 5th gear and have someone hold down the brakes.

So thanks everyone for all the help, it made for a good day at the junk yard.

^I would not use a gear puller on teh crank pulley. I learned the hard way, luckily it was the broken one I was trying to remove.

What happened?

My gear puller is pretty adjustable and the jaws grip on the back side of the pulley. The pressure exerted seemed to be even.

What do you suggest instead.?

I have an electric Harbor Freight impact gun but I want to try removing it while locking the brakes first. Just to see how well it works.

What gear where you in? People say you have to be in 5th or at least 4th gear.
