Scrap the cvt and get a regular A/T tranny. Sure there are a few around, even on the island where u live.

Actually not really, most sentras were rental cars with ga16. To be honest I prob was the first person to introduce the sr20 to the island 10 years ago when I moved back here after college in Miami with my turbo B14 built by myself with Andreas Miko as my teacher.

So finding a sr auto will not be easy I am not sure of one on island and I'm usually aware of the Nissan movements and available parts on island.

I would go with whatever transmission has performance upgrades. Remember if you are going for a race application you are going to want increased flow from the valve body and you are going to want better friction clutch packs.

When I built my Z32 back in 02 I had the entire trans rebuilt with an HKS upgrade kit. After that the car was not streetable, but when the trans shifted it shifted. When I got the tires put on the kid that drove it backed it up and said screw this and had me put it on the lift for him. Wife wouldn't even drive it after that. Told her you just can't floor it. If you just slightly gas it and just gradually increase throttle you are fine.

So I geuss what I'm saying is before you build a race only auto, make sure you want a race only auto. Kid I sold the Z32 loved it though.

Honestly this is what I would do:

Source an A/T for the P chassis.

Swap the DE and VE between the B and P chassis, mating the CVT to the DE.

If the CVT doesn't operate as it should, install your previously sourced A/T. You'll need an ECU to drive the A/T. (Find a DE auto ECU)

Wish I could be more help. I don't know enough about how the CVT is actually controlled, though the mechanics are stupid simple.

The CVT uses its own ECU and the stock ECU sends signaling to it. You would need the CVT control unit with the CVT trans and some way to send signaling to it (check FSM to see what signal wires feed the CVT control unit).

Reading is Fundamental.

He HAS a P11 with a VE and CVT, and is considering swapping in the DE. My first thought would be, do the ecu's control the throttle and timing of the engine in relation to the CVT, and is it drive by wire?

Chriscar is correct. A P11 with VE and CVT, a B13 with DE and 5 speed. I want to swap engines and ecu only. Have P11 as my DD auto to go to work and transport kids quietly and comfortably and the B13 as my weekend 5speed race car no feature comforts.
