Can a CVT be used with DE?
As title says, can a CVT be used with a DE? To do a swap into a primera that had a VE and CVT.

Why would you ever want to do that haha

Potential project. swap the VE from heavy ass P11 to a B13 that will be turned into a strictly race car (time attack). Obviously put the DE back in the P11 to remain as a nice comfortable DD to go to work and take kids to school.

I'd think the CVT would have some kind of computer control. If it does it would probably have to be adjusted for the different characteristics of the new engine. As far as mating the two parts I don't see why you couldn't. The VE and DE bolt holes are the same.

Why don't you just keep the VE in the Primera and buy a second VE for the B13? Ve's are like 800 USD here in the US.

I'm not in the US, I'm in the cayman islands. I would need to pay to ship it here then they will charge me 25% duty on the total cost (item cost + shipping). Then I'll have a DE sitting here that no one wants, they are not wanted like in the US. So what cost u $800 will cost me just over $1300 and I can't recover any cost by selling the DE.

I am also pretty sure the CVT would bolt to the DE, but as u said my main concern was how the CVT computer control would function with the different engine characteristics or the DE engine ecu connected.

You are correct. The CVT's in the P11 VE's have their own separate computer and it's all tied into the body harness. Unless you have an entire front clip to get the wiring from I don't think it will be worth the hassle.

It is currently a full complete driving Primera.

What are the rules for your time attack class? Are you going for a higher horsepower/torque level than a DE can offer? I ask because here in the states a DE powered racer makes much more financial sense. Wear and tear is a natural part of racing. DE's are still very common so parts are easily sourced they are also cheap to buy. From what you said about your location shoot maybe you could get a few spare running DEs for almost nothing.

No restrictions really, classes are determined by drivetrain, actually it's just 2WD (FWD and RWD in one class) 140 tread wear tire or higher, AWD class 140+ tread wear and Unlimited class (any drive but specific rated tires).

So power is not restricted, usually the course layouts big power is not needed. Competition in 2WD class would be type-R hondas, rx7, Silvia. I figure a DE is just a bit underpowered, the VE in a lightened B13 with good suspension and brakes would be perfect balance.

We're a small island we don't have 100's of racers showing up, so to get specific with classes is not really possible. Usual turn out is maybe 10 racers per class.
