Fuel vent hose shenanigans
Someone explain why Nissan did this.

I want to replace the fuel vent hose on my B13, the smaller of the two rubber hoses that run between the gas tank and the filler.

The inner diameter of the hose is 7/16" on the tank end, and 9/16" (or larger) on the filler pipe end. No, the hose didn't stretch on one end. It was molded that way, and the guy at the parts store agreed. Sumitomo 1Z06 is the only marking on the hose.

I just tried the 7/16" fuel-grade hose from the parts store (only a dollar invested), and not even goatse guy could make that stretch on the filler end. So what's the other option? A $36 hose from Nissan (part # 17226-50Y01).

People in the old forum archives said to just go get a length of hose, but I don't know what the hell they were on, or if they even did the work themselves. Maybe compromise in the middle with a 1/2" I.D. hose, and clamp it extra tightly on the tank end, and stretch it on the filler end?

I don't remember what I did because it was about 3 years ago, but I think it was basically what you described. Clamping tight and stretching (and crossing a finger or two).

Its worked so far. Plus no gas smells, so that would lead me to believe no leaks.

try getting some brass barb fittings and just reduce the hoses

Get a length of the 9/16" long enough to make the reach and a shorter piece of 7/16". Then put the 9/16" on the filler side (obviously) and then cut off a small bit from the 7/16" hose and put it over the outlet on the tank side. Put the 9/16" end that's still free over the smaller 7/16" piece and clamp it down that way. I did this to get my GA16 radiator to work with my SR20 and it worked perfectly (no flow issues).

This is of course assuming it's possible to cram the 7/16" hose inside the 9/16". But if it doesn't fit I would go with the half inch idea.

You could use a stepped hose adapter like when you convert the heater hose on a B13/SR20VE install. Maybe they make one in that size.

Thanks for the suggestions. I think I'll get a length of 1/2", and a length of 9/16", and see what is easiest to Macgyver up.

Unfortunately, a non-threaded 7/16" x 9/16" hose union/reducer/adapter doesn't appear to have existed anywhere, ever. Apparently, no one but Nissan has half-assed a system enough to require 7/16" x 9/16" hose.

nissan did this on a couple spots on the tank then because on the dirver side of the tank theres another hose that i think goes to the line for the charcoal canister.

not sure really but the point is the hose is like 12 inches long total and has like 9/16 on one end and 5/8s on the other end. Luckely the local parts store had something to match

Another thing I've done in the past is use a heat gun to soften it up, rig up something to stretch the hose a little (needlenose pliers held open with something wedged between the handles worked for me), let it cool, then when you take it all apart you have a minute to position it before it shrinks back down. That works really well.

go to plumbing section at lowes. THey have barb to barb reducers for hose in brass. Get one for your application.

I humored myself and looked at the Lowes plumbing section yesterday evening, and almost everything is 1/4", 3/8", or 1/2". I have a feeling that a 7/16" x 9/16" coupler/reducer is unobtainium.
