Thread: Headgaskets to bump compression

I believe Miko once said that 1mm = 0.7 compression points. The DE gasket, if I'm not mistaken, is 1.1mm standard???. So, if you used a 0.5mm head gasket the difference would only be 0.6mm. This would equate to a compression bump of 0.42 points, (9.5:1 to appx. 9.92:1). Not much at all.

The OEM VE gasket he is referring to is the 'paper-style' one from the SR20VE. I believe it is 1.1 mm and compresses to appx 0.9mm. I have seen others suggest that the 3 layer metal gasket from the SR20VET is 1.5mm standard. I have never personally measured them though, just going off of what I have read on this forum. Either way, neither gasket will give you a bump in compression over the DE gasket and the VET 3-layer metal gasket will lower your compression a bit.
