Fuel pump: Does this look right?
Had my fuel pump replaced under an open recall on my car. Dealer is telling me they had to "rig" it to work because there are parts broken/missing and that the pump should be sitting completely upright. I told them I couldn't wait 3-4 days for parts so just do the best you can.

Thoughts, comments.....

Sounds like they broke it trying to take it apart? Either way, it looks okay from here, as long as they put your old angled sock filter on there...
There should also be a fuel line from the top of the pump to the tank cover. You just removed that for the picture, yes?

A little zip tie never hurt anyone...

This is my XE. When I got the car I noted in the paperwork from the previous owner that the fuel pump had been replaced. The car was experiencing stalling out issues which is part of the reason I got it for $450. I replaced fuel hoses between the hardline and the tank because some hack who worked on it previously just threw in standard fuel hose not rated for high pressure, I figured the same guy did the fuel pump.

I was still having issues, so I thought the replacement fuel pump might be on it's way out. Why not let Nissan pay for it under the recall, right?

Anyway, while it was in on Wednesday the dealer called me and gave me the line that there were parts broken/missing from the previous pump install. I could either wait 3-4 days for the plastic peices that surround the pump, or they could rig it like the one they removed. I'm always suspisious of stealerships and I figured they were trying to squeeze me for a couple bucks, so I told them to do the best they could without ordering the new parts.

I got it back Wednesday night, then yesterday on my lunch break the car shut off and would not restart. I had it towed home and after work last night I found the pressure hose popped off the pump because they re-used a shitty squeeze clamp.

I took half the day off today, put the hose back on with a real clamp, snapped some pics while I had it open then drove to the dealer to inform them that they suck.

Can anyone confirm that the pump should be sitting completely upright like the dealer said?

On a B13 without the recall done, the fuel pump sits at a 45 degree angle like you have. And the filter is angled and positioned according. I don't have any idea what the dealership is talking about. The entire recall kit might come with a new plastic cage that mounts the fuel pump straight up and down?
