This was my reaction as well. Make sure to use an OEM Nissan cable. Aftermarket cables seems to have a short life span. Changing the cable can be a PITA unless you do some homework. First tip: do not remove the fitting where the cable goes through the firewall. Just loosen it at the tranny enough to take if off the activation arm, then remove it from the top of the pedal. It's just a hook and loop arrangement on the pedal - pull the cable to the rear of the car and lift it up and off the pedal. After it's free of the pedal just pull it into the engine compartment.

When putting the cable back it, thread it through the firewall first before you put it in the retaining clip. It helps to make a little shepherd hook out of a coat hanger to insinuate the cable through the firewall if you can't reach it with your hands.

If swapping the cable doesn't do it, then report back.
