Well they might, but it's all a matter of time with that shitty 5th gear design. Not resting your hand on it might get you another couple thousand miles out of it. It's the engine mounts that matter most IMO. And even then you're still working with a ticking time bomb.

OK, I'm not agreeing with you then... but on occasion I've caught myself resting my hand on the shifter and could actually feel a slight increase in vibration when I did. It feels like it's going to let go at any moment especially if you tend to pull back naturally when resting like I do.
Yes, the shitty design has something to do with it but I strongly feel hand resting is a large contributor to the problem.

Ive been told not to rest my hand on the shifter since i started driving. I learned how to drive on a manual and out of the 14 cars ive owned only 2 were autos. I always rest my hand on my leg unless cornering hard then it goes on the wheel.

I usually have my left arm resting somewhere on the door (or out if my window is down) and my right hand rests at the bottom of the steering wheel when I'm cruising. But if i'm driving hard or anything like that, its both hands on the wheel and keeping my hand off the shifter unless I'm shifting.

I'm just going to start driving around with a 40oz in my lap. I could rest my hand on that and stay hydrated.

17 replies and not one comment from the gutter? Something is wrong here. Doesn't anyone rest their hand on/in someone else?

I dont rest mine on the shifter, usually its on my wifes leg, if im not using both hands on the wheel. With my previous cars, that would cause the bushings to go bad in the top of the tranny. Much prefer the touch of skin to shift knob...
