The key is drill slowly,with a NEW bit,and take your time.You definately dont need/want to drill all the way through....you go like a 1/2 inch,if that.
Keep trying the extractor in the hole until you can tell it will get a good bite when hammered in..I think the punch may have came through ever so slightly ut the back,but no chunks of metal,no threads damaged.
I couldnt find the pic I took of the extractor stuck in the plug after I got it out.
It will be obvious when you are doing it.
The drill bit will not come out the other side unless you just go at it like a monkey

I struggled with mine with taps,chisels,easy-outs,round extractors...I tried all kinds of things before I tried this extractor.
It took like 15 mins tops and I was done.
Thats why I took pics of the stuff I used...to post here

P11 plug is steal. Mine had surface rust.


Before you even go sticking stuff inside the plug heat it up with a torch! I tried to unscrew before heating and stripped it first.



This is the safest way on B chassis. On P chassis its a 10mm hex bit for fill and 14mm hex for drain.

Nobody hits these things with liquid wrench or pb blaster anymore?

1) inspect fill plug before beginning work

2) remove fill plug before beginning work on axles or clutch or changing tranny fluid

3) if your transmission is nasty like op hit with pb blaster and wait 15 min, and try again. If it doesnt work hit with pb again and come back in the morning.

Idk what to try

I got 2 (1quart bottles) in the car and I know I lost like at least 1 quart when I was doing my axle the other day. And also weird thing now when im just rolling Either turning or not I hear a small clunk..

I always do all of the above,but sometimes its not enough
pb is great,the best,IMO...but if its stripped and theres sealant,no amount of pb blaster is gonna work.

I know what you are saying and I will do exactly what you posted in the pics if some uninitiated sr20 noob brings this problem to my doorstep one day.

But so many problems are avoided if you just take 2-3 minutes and sess out a problem before you get into things. My grandfather was a great mechanic and he only taught me a few things before he passed in an untimely manner. one of them was;
