Wrong! I have dyno data showing massive torque gains with a cutout on my bolt on NA sr20. matter of fact I saw a gain of 10wtq at 3500rpm with open cut vs closed. My setup was gen 6 header with 3" high flow cat and catback with the cutout right before the muffler. I had a 2000 maxima muffler so the car would be quiet when it was closed.

Exhaust has nothing to do with back pressure and everything to do with velocity. On a turbo engine everything after the turbo is some what of a moot point. But on NA the exhaust size and length has everything to do with cyl scavenging and proper flow rates. A cut out on an NA engine will do nothing but hurt performance. Case closed.
