Single wire sensor goes to the gauge....does not operate fans. The two wire sensor goes to the ecu that controls the fans. If the plug is loose or cracked it will malfunction. That's why the ecu will kick on the fans if it is unplugged as a fail-safe.

A better way is to use a long funnel in the radiator filler neck (put a piece of rubber hose around the funnel tip if it doesn't fit water tight) and only fill it a little, as the water circulates with the car running add just enough to keep the coolant level above the full line of the radiator.

Shut the car down before coolant dummy gauge gets to the middle part. If your dummy gauge doesn't work but you have an aftermarket coolant temp gauge shut the car down at 150* to avoid boiling the coolant out and getting burned. It will take like 10 minutes or so before it gets that hot but still keep an eye on it. You can squeeze the coolant hose to get some bubbles out too.
