What's the correct dipstick?
I just purchased a car with a W11 DET in it and the dipstick looks like it has been cut off on the tip.
I compared it to the one in my stock '92SER and it has a different length and part number on the stick.
I compared it to the one from my BB DET and it has another part number on it.

If you have a W11 DET, can you look on your dipstick and see what number you have on it.

They are in fact different. I did a side-by-side comparison of three different types. You'll need to be creative with the dipstick (I actually welded my handle to a piece of stock to make a long handle).

Reason I say that: No one at the time had a DET oil stick, and I think Greg said he could order one but it would be weeks to receive it.

OR - Use a DE stick, but make note that the full mark is actually 1qt low.

I have all of the different dipsticks, but I am wondering which one is the correct one for the W11 motor. It's about 1/2" longer than the one from my BB DET. I am concerned about running the wrong dipstick and not having enough oil in the motor.

I am hoping the guy didn't use the one from the '99 SR20 that was in the car to begin with. God knows what that part number is.

If you know how much oil it's supposed to hold just fill it up at the next oil change, start it to fill the filter, then make a mark on the current stick to know where full is at.

The end result is that that is the best way to determine which is the correct one.
I was trying to create a thread in case someone else ever had the issue.

I got my W11 from Andreas Miko, everything looked original.
My W11 dipstick is marked 78E03 and is definitely shorter than the one in my old 92 DE block.
