I've often wondered if there wasn't a different ignition switch, and/or door locks (Ford, Mazda,VW, etc..) that would fit in and we could use as upgrades.

Same thing for me, 1 keys unlocks and starts 2 out of 3 of our B13's.

Why people go through so much risk to steal a car not worth more than $5k I just don't understand.

On my original lock-set, the key was nearly smooth. I could start the vehicle and then remove the key while the switch was in the on position, vehicle still running.

I bought a BNIB full Nissan OEM lock-set a couple years back. Ignition, trunk, doors, even the glove box.

Don't forget a removable steering wheel. Mine has a million combinations between the hub and the wheel adapter part, so even if a thief has the exact same brand and model hub/wheel adapter, his wheel adapter will not mate up with my hub. Well worth the expense to create another serious hassle for would-be thieves.

Yeah mine does that occasionally too, lol. Im not too concerned about it, Its garaged and not even a daily driver at the moment anymore but before that i never worried about it getting stolen. All that ever got stolen out of my area were trucks, suburbans, and hondas.

This is some bullshit. Who the hell would sell something like this and what dealership in their right mind wouldn't destroy these immediately?

Thank God. I have a killswitch that only a select few people know about for safety purposes.
