So I just. Bought Thule 50" bars with 400 legs. I was looking for fit kit 253 but couldn't find it on eBay.

Try Amazon, what are you going to carry on the roof?

Re: Bike Rack questions....
I found the kit...but I'm not sure wat size wind fairing to get?. And I only ever find 1 style. I've seen different style wind fairings on cars in my city.

Didn't want to start a new thread, so sorry for bumping an oldie:

I bike a decent amount, and would like to bring a bike or 2 for my upcoming roadtrip, but don't want the hassle nor expense of dealing with a roof rack. Does anyone know the approximate weight of a trailer hitch? I feel like this set up for bike carrying is easier and better. Also, has anyone fit the universal class 1 hitches by themselves? Is it difficult, or pretty much a bolt on affair?

Thanks in advance.

bolt on affair. approximate weight with the rack, bar, and hitch is 60lbs.

Buhahahahaha! Yeah, I am not JDM style with a roof rack which never sees a bike. Due to the nice overall climate in Denver, CO I bike A LOT. If there is no, or light rain forecast and the temp is below 90 or above freezing I bike for my work commute as well as for most of my errands which can be done without a car. I bike 10 times more than I drive anymore and for multiple reasons.

It all started last year for me, my GTI was in the dealership getting a new engine because the old one blew. The warranty work ended up taking WELL over the estimated time frame, so I bought a cheap fixie to ride to the light rail (train) for my work commute. Having not ridden a bike since I was of license age, I fell in love again. Now it's my primary hobby. I love it! I now have a stable of bikes, frames, forks, and parts.

I suggest anyone who hasn't ridden in awhile to go out and rent a bike if they are available in your area. They are super fun and you can get into it for as little or as much as you want to spend, and they are customizable just like cars are. Biggest drawback for work commute is it does take me about 25 mins longer round trip than driving would, but outside of that I have no complaints. Gas, car maintenance, and insurance has gone down for me.

Oh yeah, me and some buddies do brewery pub crawls and will even ride around to the bars in our neighborhood. Super fun, especially with the weather being nice right now!

Go pedal power. Unlimited smiles to the gallon.

Thanks man. I am going to order one from the hitch shop down the street! Will be attempting the install on my own. Are basic hand tools sufficient?

yes, hand tools are all that are needed. you are going to feel dumb for even asking once you realize how cake it is.
