Thread: rough idle after cai install

so i recently installed my aem cai on my nx2000 and also did the throttle body heater bypass. ive always had a slightly rough idle but it was always something i could live with after installing the prothane mounts, but now the car idles sooo bad that alot of the time it almost stalls out. ive checked all the vacuum hoses that i couldve possibly touched when i was installing it, checked all the injectors and spark plugs, checked for any codes in the ecu and so far no luck.. it drives fine except at idle.. any help would be greatly appreciated thanks!

Un-bypass the throttle body?

Check for vacuum leaks?

Did you hook up all the holes/lines/hoses on the new intake that were from the old, existing holes/lines/hoses?

You changed something in the system and looked at unrelated parts, first, it appears. Look at the work done and maybe the answer is there.

do you think the throttle body bypass would cause a rough idle? it would be worth a try..
yea i looked at all the vacuum hoses and checked them all for leaks and not luck
yea i got them all hooked up, i used to have only the short ram set up but i wanted to go ahead and install the rest of it and now that i did the idle just sucks..

its probably none of those things. how much larger is the cai tubing vs the stock tubing? this is a common problem on other cars where the cai tubing is a lot larger than the stock tubing. it changes the amount of air that the maf is seeing and it also flows differently than the maf was intended for. thats why on cars like my evo, we tweak the numbers and tune for the intake.

i actually was thinking the same thing.. ima try un-bypassing the throttle body first and see where that takes me ill keep you guys posted if i figure it out.

did it start this as soon as you changed to this setup or did it take a little while. AEM intakes are notorious for fouling the MAF with the oil they drench their crappy filters in. I had same symtoms on a new toyota and other cars, i dealt with it and just cleaned my MAF once a week. clean the MAF with MAF cleaner and see if it runs better, if it does then change the filter out for a "dry type" filter.

Try resetting the ECU too

Sounds like there is a clamp that is not tightened down, allowing unmetered air in the intake. Recheck all the hose clamps on the CAI

I would say reset the TPS, check timing, and reset idle.
