Rack And Pinion
I'm in the process of going through my suspension and I have come to the part on what to do with my Rack & pinion. There are no issues with it that I know of besides needing new boots. Since I'm building this car to autocross I wanted to see what options I had. A new Rebuilt one from rackdoctor will be about $118.00 after a core charge. I don't know if these are OEM rebuilt units or not,I was gonna call and ask that. If I go with new boots from Greg V and moog tie rods inner and outer, I'm looking at over 150$ in costs. If I get a reman'd one and just outer Moog tie rod's it will be the same cost. I don't know which way to go with this ATM. Since I'm a noob does a rack wear out at 150k plus miles even tho it doesn't leak or anything? Any opinions would be much appreciated.

FYI torn boots are usually the culprit of the rack going.Dirt/water gets pulled in and out of the rack through the inner tierods.

My opinion...do it once right and be done with it.
Reman rack, only if needed........moogs in and out from wherever is cheapest(rock auto?)....get the boots from gregv. They will outlast the cheapos AND fit better
Oh.dont forget to pout es rack bushing in while you are in there.

I'm also searching on the same subject. I'm not a huge fan of moog. I've heard the Raybestos Pro grade are the better of the 2. I know my rack needs new ends and is a little loose. New ES bushings would add stability. My boots are shot, but the rack is not leaking any fluid. So, any other input from members would be much appreciated from me as well.
