Thread: in the market for new rims! help plz

There are two classes of "racing" wheels in my mind.
Class 1) Strong, light wheels meant to handle abuse, even plenty of road abuse since they are stronger (if lighter) than the DOT requires.
Class 2) Super light wheels meant to last enough laps to get you the win, but don't hit any bumps ever.


99% of "racing" wheels recommended around here are of Class 1. 949s are no exception.

It's right there in the name. 6UL = 6 spoke, Ultra Light, = 6exUaL. Get it?

What advantages do you guys notice while driving with lighter wheels vs the stock wheels?

Quicker pickup is one of them. Your removing weight off the driveline which in turn puts more down to the pavement. Thats a given.

Other than that I dont know if there is any other gain from it.

You get the light flywheel effect on acceleration (although less pronounced) and you get a smoother ride since unsprung weight goes down. Also better traction over irregular surfaces because the suspension can do its job better.

If I was in the market for wheels, those are all wheels I would be looking at. From the K1 "old school" forward, K1 TS, 949, RPF1's as mentioned.

K1 TS and K1 are nice and cheap. THey have a 38mm offset though. You might need spacers in the future if you want to run a tire that is bigger than 195 in width.

If I was going to buy rims I'd pick up a set of Enkei RPF1s in black. They are going for like 200 a wheel though. Definitely above your price range.

I've always wondered if XXR 002 16x8 +25 offset will fit the B13?
I saw some and would be considering if it works? Might be an option for you?
